Ranch dressing ice cream is coming to Ohio later this month
A passage in Mary Shelley’s famous gothic novel “Frankenstein,” just after the creation of the doctor’s monster, reads like this:
“Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I rushed out of the room, and continued a long time traversing my bed-chamber, unable to compose my mind to sleep.”
We imagine the creator(s) of the new ranch dressing-flavored ice cream, which was recently introduced as a joint venture between artisanal New York company Van Leeuwen Ice Cream and Hidden Valley, likely told themselves the same thing after realizing what they had done.

Yesterday, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream announced its new slate of spring flavors, and Hidden Valley Ranch Ice Cream was on the list. According to Van Leeuwen (which has produced Grey Poupon and mac and cheese flavors in the past), the new ranch ice cream will be available exclusively at Walmart store across the country from March 20 until May 28.
A press release for the new product said the ice cream boasts “savory flavors of ranch, including buttermilk, flavorful herbs and a touch of sweetness.”
“Food & Wine” got their hands on an early sample, and here’s what they had to say about it:
“With reactions ranging from ‘it’s very garlic powder forward’ to ‘it tastes like sweet ranch’ to ‘I only wish I had french fries to pair it with’ to ‘no,’ it’s a flavor that may not be for everyone, but for those die-hard ranch fans out there, it’s absolutely memorable.”
