Local craft brewery hosting “Human Wack-A-Mole” event next month
Most of us know just how effective the classic game Whac-A-Mole can be for stress relief, so imagine what participating in a version with actual people can do for you.
Well, soon enough you won’t have to imagine. Just one week after the craft brewery gave away more than 70 pounds of free beans amid hilarious hijinx, Marysville’s Walking Distance Brewing Co. has announced it plans to hold a Human Wack-A-Mole event and fundraiser on Feb. 2, beginning at 7 p.m.
“I think we’re going to build a machine out of refrigerator boxes with holes cut in the top,” Walking Distance owner Teddy Valinski told 614Now. “We’ll have people unearth each hole–obviously they’ll be wearing helmets–and people will be able to bop them over the head with a mallet, probably one made out of something like a pool noodle.”

Walking Distance is partnering with Marysville Second Chance Animal Refuge (SCAR) for the event, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the organization. Valinkski said that their Wack-A-Mole setup will feature four holes, and that three of the individuals who will pop up to be whacked are SCAR employees.
The brewery’s Human Wack-A-Mole has a suggested donation of $5 for participants, but, according to the brewery owner, “if you don’t have the money and want to play, that’s fine too.”
Walking Distance, which is located at 222 E. 8th St. in Marysville, will host a variety of events in the near future as well, including a fundraiser for the Union County Rainbow Coalition (the group behind the Marysville Pride Festival) and a recurring free event where Valinski buys random items from thrift stores and lets brewery guests play Bingo to claim them.
“We play for stuff like your grandparents’ lamp,” Valinski said with a laugh.
