“Orchids” exhibit opens Saturday at Franklin Park Conservatory

Sick of winter yet, Columbus?

The return of Franklin Park Conservatory‘s popular annual event could help hold us over until spring.

“Orchids,” featuring thousands of blooming flowers against a backdrop of lush, tropical plants, opens Saturday, Jan. 23 and runs through March 7.

“The orchid exhibition opens at a time of year when we are craving color the most. The Conservatory is a place to escape muted winter landscapes and surround yourself with bright, warm, tropical scenery. To be around so many flowers in the wintertime is a truly rejuvenating experience,” said Conservatory President and CEO Bruce Harkey in a prepared statement.

“Orchids” features about 1,650 orchids representing 15 unique genera. Guests will also see giant panel mosaics of mosses, preserved flowers, and other natural materials.

The entrance to the exhibit is marked with a grand archway adorned with tillandsia air plants, orchids, and live Spanish moss. The exhibit is a combination of brightly colored exotic orchids and pastel succulent arrangements.

The Conservatory is also running “Chihuly Nights” on select evenings January through October.
