First phase of new Metro Park likely opening in October

We don’t have much longer to wait.

In two months time, it’s likely the first phase of the highly-anticipated Quarry Trails Metro Park will be open to the public.

“October; sometime this fall. That’s what we’re hoping for,” said Metro Parks Public Information Manager Peg Hanley.

And the first phase of the park, which was built on the site of a former quarry, should contain no shortage of opportunities for serious outdoor recreation.

An observation deck and sculpted limestone stairs lead down to a 25-foot waterfall, while the two on-site quarry lakes connect kayakers and other water-sport enthusiasts to the nearby Scioto River.

And even though the park’s extensive mountain bike system–complete with five different tracks–isn’t technically part of the 64 acres opening in the fall, according to Hanley, a separate entrance to the area will allow access to it when the first phase of the park opens.

The forthcoming Metro Park is located at the intersection of Dublin and Trabue roads, but is still a hotspot for local wildlife.

In addition to deer and migratory birds, the park also contains a beaver lodge, and lucky guests may even be able to catch a glimpse of the critters in the early morning.
