Traditional German food, beer on display at this Oktoberfest-inspired festival

While we may not be in Munich, that doesn’t mean we can’t have some real Oktoberfest-style fun this year anyway.

And if that’s what you’re after, North High Brewing is the place to be next month. Their first-ever Lager Fest, featuring an array of seasonal lagers, live music, and German food, will take place on Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. in their Short North taproom (1288 N. High St.).

“Our brewers wanted to honor Oktoberfest, and they really enjoy brewing and drinking lagers, so creating the event just made sense,” said North High Marketing Director Kelsey Stief.

Six lagers—a Vienna lager, Munich helles, New Zealand dry-hopped Pilsner, Schwarzbier, Oktoberfest marzen, and a Honey Wheat lager—will be brewed for the occasion. They’ll be available in the brewery’s standard-size vessels, as well as in the traditional half-liter and liter pours you’d find at Oktoberfest.

Schmidt’s food truck will be on site serving up a variety of authentic German eats, and there will even be a handful of themed games, including a stein-holding contest.

And case you were wondering, the contest exactly what it sounds like. “Whoever can hold their stein up the longest wins,” Stief said, before issuing a slight warning to potential participants. “They’re so much heavier than you think they are, so be careful.”
