Nocterra planning Brewery District expansion with rooftop patio

Jack McLaughlin

If all goes according to plan for the local beer-makers, we won’t have to take a trip up to Powell the next time we want to visit a Nocterra Brewing Co. location.

This is because the Delaware-county brewers have plans to bring a new spot to the Brewery District. Nocterra is hoping to develop 516 Maier Place, a property on the Whittier Peninsula that abuts Scioto Audubon Metro Park and overlooks the Scioto River. Nocterra has also proposed adding a rooftop patio.

The brewery presented conceptual plans through Jackie Davis, a designer with the Columbus architecture firm SHYFT Collective at a special Brewery District Commission meeting on Oct. 7.

Davis noted the new space would aim for an “open atmosphere”, complete with garage-style doors. She said the patio would provide “cool rooftop views of downtown and the park at the same time.”

And while the brewery’s conceptual plan was approved, it will still require final approval.

Brewery District Commission members reacted favorably to Davis’ presentation at the meeting as well. “Let’s be honest, it’s a pretty raw area out there, so anything is going to help,” said a commission member.

“This and the climbing gym [next door at 512 Maier Place] are all a great addition to the neighborhood, so I’m happy about this.”
