For nearly four decades, Leipzig Haus has stood as a beloved destination  dive bar for students of Capital University and the city’s East Side alike.

According to a statement posted by co-owner Merri Jo Linton, though, in less than a week the popular spot will be no more. The bar’s final day of operation will be on Feb. 5, Linton’s statement says.

Leipzig Haus is located at 2201 E. Livingston Ave. just south of Capital University. It has served the community since 1984.

“These past two years have taken their toll on the Zig. As much as covid has disrupted our business the unknown of the potential Sheetz development is more than we can overcome. With our landlord unwilling to communicate, discuss, or otherwise inform us of what lies ahead we are only guaranteed a sixty-day future,” the statement reads. “As a business, we cannot continue to operate, invest, or plan for the future. Nor can we hire employees with good conscious knowing they may not have a job the next month.”

Leipzig Haus had posted about staffing issues in recent months as well.
