Accident report: Driver lost control of brakes, was traveling 70 mph before crashing into convention center

According to a Columbus Police accident report on the Tesla that crashed into the Columbus Convention Center last week, the vehicle did so while traveling 70 miles per hour and losing control of its brakes.

The vehicle, a Tesla owned by Yellow Cab, was being operated by 63 year-old Frantz Jules. 

According to the report, Jules lost control of the car’s brakes while driving on State Route 315. He then exited onto Vine Street, while still traveling at 70 miles per hour.

Multiple witnesses close to the Convention Center at the time of the incident told police it appeared that the vehicle sped up shortly before the crash in order to make a yellow light. Witnesses also stated that it did not appear the driver attempted to engage the breaks before hitting the Convention Center.

No one was injured in the crash, although Jules was transported to the hospital after the incident.
