A film festival dedicated entirely to funny cat videos is coming to Columbus

Because we could all use more cute, cuddly and hilarious cat videos, a film festival dedicated entirely to this is coming to Columbus.

Now in its 11th year, CatVideoFest will be screened at Gateway Film Center on Aug. 4, Aug. 5 and Aug. 9.

You can buy tickets here.

The festival, which was created in 2012, is only available in theaters throughout the country, and will screen for a limited time. This year, a 75-minute compilation of cat videos created from “countless hours of unique submissions and sourced animations, music videos, and classic internet powerhouses” is featured. According to CatVideoFest director Will Braden, this year’s film includes approximately 200 different cat-related clips.

“I watch between 10,000 and 12,000 cat videos every year to put together the reel. I have been verified by the BBC as the person who has watched the most cat videos in all of human history,” Braden said. “It’s definitely not a bad gig! We get a lot of submissions but I do have to reach out to hundreds of folks from all types of social media from all over the world to put together what ends up in the final reel.”

While most of us don’t need additional justification to watch funny cat content, CatVideoFest has a good cause behind it as well. Each year the event donates a portion of proceeds to local cat shelters and welfare organizations. The group partners with Colony Cats (& dogs) in Columbus.
