Anthony O'Connell

Pizza party, anyone? Whether it’s the crispy thin crust, the square goodness of Detroit style, or the classic hand-tossed, I am all in. The pepperoni and sausage combo is my usual feast, but this time, I’m slicing into something different. I’m on a mission to uncover the most creatively unique pizzas Columbus has to offer.

JT’s Pizza & Pub (2390 W Granville Rd)
Their thin crust party cut pizzas are highly customizable. Choose from four sauces, five crust flavors, and a ton of toppings. Don’t miss April’s Pizza of the Month: the Pulled Pork Mac & Cheese. It features a decadent cheese sauce, house-smoked pulled pork, creamy mac and cheese, all topped with scallions.

Pie of the Tiger (674 N High St)
Located in Short North Tavern, their thick square pizzas are as creative as they are delicious. It’s a tasty blend of Sicilian and Detroit styles. Go with the Dill Thrill pizza topped with minced garlic, garlic butter, provolone & dill pickles with ranch & Old Bay hot sauce on top – there’s no red sauce on this pie. If you really wanna party, add bacon.

A creative Columbus classic, they offer traditional thin crust, hand tossed, and gluten free crust options. Their sauce game is strong, ranging from original to Howlin’ Hot to pesto. The Hot Mama is a major feast with a provolone and mozzarella blend, hot Cajun links, ham, bacon, and sauerkraut with their spicy sauce.

DiCarlo’s (91 E 5th Ave)
The original Ohio Valley Pizza features crispy square slices covered in red sauce, with fresh provolone and any additional toppings added after baking. The contrast between the warm, crispy crust and the cool, fresh cheese creates a memorable and satisfying experience. In addition to Ohio, Dicarlo’s serves up this signature slice in West Virginia and Tennessee.

Harvest Bar + Kitchen (2885 N High St)
With five locations, this gourmet pizzeria prides itself on community and supporting local farmers. Their menu has a wide variety of unique pies, including a delicious vegan option. The Vegan Pepperoni and Peppers pizza, with red sauce, vegan cheese, BeHive vegan pepperoni, bell peppers, peppadew peppers, parsley & thyme.
