New Hunan & Sichuan Chinese restaurant with 100+ menu items just opened, & Columbus is already loving it

Sure, we all love our local Chinese take-out spots, with to-go boxes packed to the brim with lo mein and General Tso’s.

But there’s something to be said for more authentic, Chinese regional fare. 

“It’s really different because real Chinese restaurants will take much more time preparing the food,” as opposed to American-style restaurants that tend to use the same sauce and spices for many dishes, said Lu Sha, the owner of Columbus’ newest Chinese restaurant, called Fiery Sky Asian Kitchen.

Fiery Sky Asian Kitchen opened over the weekend in a 3,000 square foot space that once housed Kebab Hummus Grill at 1450 Bethel Road, and the reviews are in: it’s fantastic. “Authentic Chinese food. High quality ingredients that make a substantial difference when compared to almost every Chinese food spot in Ohio/America,” said one review. Another said, “Authentic Chinese food and generous portions. I’m happy to have another delicious, authentic restaurant in our city. The sizzling pan udon with pork strips was fantastic.”

The restaurant specializes in Hunan and Sichuan cuisines, offering a multitude of dry-pot selections, plus fish filets in spicy Sichuan soups, braised beef brisket stew, sesame noodles, udon noodles with pork, and more than 100 other options. They also offer a large assortment of vegetarian dishes, such as sweet corn with golden yolk sauce, bok choy wok-tossed with garlic sauce, and stir-fried eggplant in a yu-xiang sauce, as well as a variety of tofu options. 

That neighborhood Chinese fare will still be offered here, too. You can still grab General Tso’s and Kung Pao chicken if that’s what your heart desires.

From Ningxia, an autonomous region in northwest China, Sha came to the United States in 2011 and studied English and photography at Columbus State Community College. Sha founded Xi Xia Western Chinese in 2019 in Kenny Center, but sold the restaurant a year later. Wanting to again be an entrepreneur and sole proprietor of his own restaurant, Fiery Sky Asian Kitchen was born. 

Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, noon to 9 p.m. Sunday and closed Tuesday. You can check out their full here!
